Straight Seams by Debbie is a local business that specializes in quality hand-crafted items including women's apparel, children's wear, bridal and accessories.

My passion for sewing began at the tender age of 10 when my mum brought out the sewing machine to make my sister and I our own special dresses. I had to practice first on paper, making sure my "seams" were straight. After progressing to real fabric, I learned many tips and tricks from mum that I have been using for years...how to lay out the pattern to save fabric...how to "clip" those annoying little triangles...how to pin accurately....tips that now come second nature to me.

Over the years I settled into mostly alterations, but also worked on the stage show at Deerhurst here in Huntsville for 13 years. Although bridal is my passion as I love seeing the finished product, I am willing to work with a client on a project until we are both happy with the result. I will also help with consulting work on a project, perhaps even shopping for just the right pattern or design and fabric. Each project is unique - just like you!

I have also expanded Straight Seams to include crocheted items as well. Ruffle scarves are all the rage right now, but with spring around the corner I hope to develop silky scarves to complement any ensemble. No project is too big or too small.
